The US is concerned about China's new "cybergun"

On Friday, State Department spokesman Jeff Ratke expressed concern about the US administration’s so-called Great Gun, a new cyber weapon used by China for DDoS attacks. A study on this topic was published by scientists from the University of California at Berkeley and the University of Toronto.

“The United States is committed to protecting the Internet as an open platform that allows all people to share new ideas, learn, and express themselves without censorship or interference—and we believe that a global, interoperable, secure, and reliable Internet is essential to achieving this goal , said Jeff Rathke. - We believe intruder attacks in cyberspace against the necessary infrastructures, US companies and consumers, threatened national security and the US economy».

“We are concerned about the information that China used new cyber capabilities that impede the free access of Internet users around the world to content that resides on servers outside of China. We are talking about the manipulation of international web traffic coming to Chinese Internet sites, as a result of which it was supplied with malicious code and directed to American sites. We asked the Chinese authorities to investigate these actions and provide us with the results of this investigation. At the same time, we work with all partners in order to strengthen cyber security, promote the norms of adequate behavior of countries in cyberspace, and protect the principle of freedom of speech on the Internet. ”

In Moscow, on Friday, in the presence of Russian President Vladimir Putin and PRC Chairman Xi Jinping, a number of contracts were signed between Russian and Chinese companies. In particular, representatives of Gazprom and China National Petroleum Corporation signed an agreement on the conditions of gas supplies from Siberia to China, and the State Development Bank of China signed an agreement on opening a credit line to Sberbank for the total amount of 6 billion yuan.

The representative of the US State Department declined to comment on the signing of these contracts, saying only that Washington was aware of the visit of the head of the PRC to Moscow (Xi Jinping will take part in the celebrations on the occasion of the 70 anniversary Victory Day) and about his meeting with the Russian president.
