Immigration is about to expel 50 thousand Haitians from the US

The US Immigration Services recommends completing the tenure for the 50 of thousands of Haitians who remained in the United States after a series of natural disasters in their homeland.

Acting U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services Director James McCament said last week that living conditions in Haiti had improved significantly enough to end "temporary protected status" for 50 Haitians.

The Obama administration offered temporary shelter to Haitians after the devastating 2010 earthquake of the year. Their tenure in the US was increased several times, but the last one expires on July 22 and, apparently, the Donald Trump administration does not intend to postpone the date again. McKeynt proposed setting a final date until January of next year, but not to extend the program, but to ensure the procedure for leaving the country.

The final decision on the fate of Haitians will be made at the Ministry of National Security. A spokesman for the ministry said the decision has not yet been made.

The 2010 earthquake made hundreds of Haitians displaced by forced migrants and destroyed homes across the country. Six months ago, Hurricane Matthew collapsed in Haiti, which claimed the lives of thousands of people. Work on the restoration of the infrastructure is still underway. In addition, after an earthquake in Haiti, cholera flared up, which killed 9 thousands of people. The fight against it is still.

“Haiti is still trying to recover from several natural disasters that killed 200 people. This is one of the poorest countries in the world and right now it has nothing to provide for the 50 thousand Haitians temporarily living in the United States,” says US Senator Bill Nelson.

Recall that the United States currently provides protection to immigrants from 13 countries: El Salvador, Guinea, Haiti, Honduras, Liberia, Nepal, Nicaragua, Sierra Leone, Somalia, Sudan, South Sudan, Syria, and Yemen.
