The unfortunate performance of the student orchestra of the University of Kansas was the occasion for a big scandal. Participants of the show were suspected in an attempt to insult the enemy.

The incident occurred during the opening of the new football season at a match between the teams of the University of Kansas and the University of South Dakota. The University of Kansas Marching Band entertained the crowd at halftime. The participants lined up on the field, forming various figures. At some point, they “laid out” a semblance of a hawk figure in this way.

At the same time, the second of the folded figures caused confusion among the audience. The fact is that many saw in it a resemblance to male genitalia. Not only did the “object” perform suspicious movements - it moved towards the open beak of the hawk and back, which many again saw as a sexual connotation.

The fact that a hawk is the mascot of a team at the University of Kansas added to the acuteness of the situation. And that, in turn, is the main opponent of the University of South Dakota in sports. In this regard, suspicions arose that the participants in the show wanted to insult their rivals in this way.

However, the University of Kansas categorically denied such accusations. The director of the orchestra explained that according to the plan, the theme of the performance was to be the cult TV series “Star Trek,” and the orchestra members were supposed to depict the battle of a hawk with the famous starship Enterprise, on which the heroes of the movie saga traveled.
