US Senator after the talks in Russia compared the Russian government with the mafia

US Senator John Neely Kennedy, after a visit to Russia as part of a delegation of US congressmen, said that negotiations with the Russian government are similar to resolving issues with the "mafia." Also, the senator noted the huge gap in the standard of living between the elite and ordinary Russians, and added that the Russian people "deserve the best."

“There is no political philosophy in Russia. It's kind of like saying what the political philosophy of the mafia is, writes ZnakQuoting Kennedy. - Their philosophy is money and power. This is Putin's philosophy. He controls the iron hand. He is a dictator. ”

At the same time, the senator said that there was no free press in Russia, and added that he did not expect a “breakthrough” from the meeting of US President Donald Trump with his Russian counterpart in Helsinki on July 16.

“You cannot trust Putin,” Kennedy said. “I think the best thing we can do is try to restrain him.”

Kennedy called the session with Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov the most difficult meeting. “We didn’t call each other“ ignorant whore ”or something else, but we exchanged words,” the American explained and called the Russian minister a “hooligan.”

The senators warned the Russians that if Russia interfered again in the US electoral process, the congress would increase sanctions in response. In response, Russian politicians categorically denied Kremlin intervention.

Recall, the US parliamentary delegation visited Moscow last week. Congressmen met with deputies of the State Duma and the Council of Federation. This was the first official visit of members of the US Congress to Russia since 2013. A wide discussion caused a video in which the State Duma deputies standing greeted the US congressmen who had adopted sanctions against Russia.
