The last sheriff of the region surrendered: now all of Northern California protects illegal criminals from ICE
The Northern California County Sheriff has announced that his office will no longer respond to any requests from the US Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) to release or relocate illegal immigrants in order to "protect the safety" of his county residents. Writes about it Fox News.

San Mateo County Sheriff Carlos Bolanos said his office's policies are now in line with other counties in the Bay Area.
“It has become apparent to me that complying with these requests regarding illegal aliens who have committed serious crimes undermines the trust that we need to protect the community,” Bolanos said. “It is not worth losing the trust of many members of the public by continuing to cooperate with ICE.”
Bolanos explained that the change came after meeting with hundreds of residents on the forum of the Law on Transparent Review of Unjust Transfers and Withholdings.

“This change comes after we heard from hundreds of residents who shared their views on how we will all be safer when the entire community understands that the sheriff's office is here to protect the public, not to enforce immigration laws. ", Bolanos argued.
County officials said the sheriff's office coordinated 15 transfers to ICE from the county jail last year, and most of those convicted of serious crimes are serving their sentences in the state jail rather than the county jail.

ICE can still obtain a court order if the agency believes the person is a serious threat.
Bolanos noted that he "will continually assess any implications of this policy change and, if necessary, consider adjustments."
