Russian avant-gardist will exhibit his paintings in New York

From 26 June to 16 July at the National Society of Arts (National arts club) there will be a personal exhibition of the Russian artist Alexander Zolotsev.

Colorful extravaganza of Venetian costumes, frozen in expressive poses bulls and matadors, languid girls with almond-shaped eyes and crafty Jewish musicians. Bright paintings of Zolottsev saturated with sunlight are often compared to the recognizable style of the masters of the Russian avant-garde. However, on closer examination, you understand how superficial such comparisons are. Creativity Zolottseva follows the best traditions of Russian art of the last century. At the same time, his painting is original in design and execution.

Zolotsev says that images of future paintings come to him in his dreams. When he wakes up, he moves these as yet unmanifested images from the magical space of dreams into our reality. He embodies them in a two-dimensional space of colorful canvases saturated with light and energy. According to the artist, he not only paints in oil on canvas, watercolor or wax pencil on paper, but can create by simply moving his hand through the air. “Even with dust and cobwebs,” jokes the artist. In the hands of a master, even the most unusual materials can magically sparkle with bright colors.

The composer Scriabin saw the color of musical notes. The artist Kandinsky heard the sound of colors and used musical terms to describe his paintings: “composition”, “improvisation”. In the works of Alexander Zolottsev, color combinations, shapes and silhouettes sound like exquisite melodies, each more whimsical than the other. They interact on the canvas to form a unique pattern. Paints magically transform the artist’s inner world, his thoughts and emotions, and transmit them outward, each time evoking a grateful response in the souls of art connoisseurs.

Henri Matisse said that good painting, above all, should be pleasing to the eye. In this sense, the work of Zolotsev meet the most stringent standards. Exquisite colors with a predominance of blue and blue, complemented by bright multicolored bursts make up the complex coloring of his recognizable style. Indigo, lapis lazuli, ultramarine - generously spread in the air, in space, in the heavens. One or more bright color spots, a splash of yellow or red among this turquoise - like a firework among a clear sky. Like sudden scarlet sails in the cool space of the northern white night. These contrasts of cold and heat constitute a remarkable feature of the artist's palette.

Graduate of the Russian Academy of Arts. Repin in St. Petersburg, in 1981 Zolotsev moved to Germany. Now he lives and works on this side of the Atlantic. Participated in more than two hundred group and personal exhibitions in Europe and America. His works are in many private collections and museums in Germany, France, England, Denmark and the USA. The artist has a special relationship with the State Russian Museum in St. Petersburg, which acquired two works by the artist for its collection. Five of Zolottsev’s paintings participated in group exhibitions organized by the museum. The current exhibition includes twenty large-format paintings (oil on canvas) and five smaller graphic works made with wax pencil on paper.

The exhibition is organized by the Russian-American Foundation (Russian American Foundation) in the framework of the 15-th annual festival of Russian culture "Our Heritage", held in New York (15 th Annual Russian Heritage Month ®).
