Russia demanded to postpone Ukraine’s transition to EU technical regulations for 10 years
On June 4-5, the first consultations between Ukraine, the EU and Russia took place in Brussels regarding some aspects of the “implementation” of the agreement on the creation of a free trade area between Ukraine and the European Union.
According to the participants in the consultations, during the current round, the parties were to discuss the transition of Ukraine to EU technical regulations, as well as the interaction of customs authorities.
However, instead of specific comments, the Russian delegation took the initiative to postpone the entry of all technical regulations adapted to EU norms for 10 years.
“Out of 24 technical regulations, only 3 remain unadapted. Moreover, some of these regulations have already entered into force,” notes EuroPravda’s interlocutor.
“The Russians want a lot of things, but it doesn’t mean anything. We gave them a list of “implemented” regulations so that they could familiarize themselves with them and form their position, based on the fact that there are only three “unimplemented” ones left,” another official clarifies.
Let us recall that holding such consultations is a key point of the “Joint Operational Conclusions” of the trilateral group of Ukraine, the EU and the Russian Federation. In exchange for Russia's refusal to demand a new postponement of the start of the free trade zone between Ukraine and the EU, the parties agreed to discuss all concerns regarding the effect of this regime on the Russian economy.
According to trilateral arrangements, technical consultations should be completed by the end of July.
