Russia and Guyana introduced a visa-free regime

Russia introduced a visa-free regime with the South American state of Guyana.

The corresponding intergovernmental agreement was signed by Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov and his foreign counterpart Karl Greenidge at the 70 session of the UN General Assembly.

According to Lavrov, the refusal of visa formalities contributes to the development of relations between the two countries.

There are no direct flights between Moscow and the capital of Guyana, Georgetown. Travel time with a transfer to the Canadian Toronto is more than a day. The cost of the flight on the route Moscow - Georgetown - Moscow is at least 85 thousand rubles (about 1100 dollars).

Earlier, Russian tourists did not need a visa to visit Guyana for up to ninety days. For a longer stay in the country, Russians had to apply for a visa. Since there are no embassies of Guyana in Russia, it was necessary to apply for documents at consulates located abroad. The nearest Guyana offices are in London and Brussels.

In March 2015, an agreement on the abolition of the visa regime was signed between Russia and El Salvador. In 2014, the same agreement was signed with Honduras.

Earlier reported that Vladimir Putin instructed the government to consider the possibility of visa-free entry to Russia for citizens of the BRICS countries.

Citizens of Brazil, China, India and the Republic of South Africa will not need a visa if they enter the territory of Russia for a short-term tourist purpose or transit.

The government should consider the order of the head of state before 30 October 2015.
