Before the live broadcast, a truck appeared in the frame and fell into a hole filled with water. Griffin, along with producer Brian Rokus, helped the man out of the car. All this time, the correspondent talked about the situation live. Returning to the camera, Griffin told viewers, "There was no time to call 911. He was swimming through that hole."
The hole was filled with 30-50 centimeters of water. According to the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, 30 centimeters of fast current can carry away a small car. “This is why you shouldn’t drive cars in a hurricane. You cannot assess the condition of the road, notice holes, streams, pipes. This is very dangerous,” the journalist noted.
The rescued man was called Jerry Sumrall. After letting the victim catch his breath, the journalist asked him on camera to comment on the incident. The man thanked the journalist for saving his life.
