Missing dog from New York found in Florida in 18 months

A five-year-old blue-eyed husky named Sinatra disappeared in New York City after his teenage owner died in a tragic accident. This happened 18 months ago. Recently, a dog was unexpectedly found - in Florida, almost 2000 kilometers from his home.

Earlier this month, Sinatra was discovered by strangers wandering through yards in Seffner, Florida, where the animal was spotted by local residents. They found the dog’s family and agreed to meet this Sunday, writes Tampa Bay Times.

Sinatra won't be able to explain what happened in the interim - a 1200-mile journey and a year and a half of life - that forced the dog from his home in Brooklyn to the streets of Seffner. The family could not find the animal all this time.

"I didn't believe it at first, but when I saw the photo, I started crying," said Lesmore Willis of Brooklyn, whose 16-year-old daughter Zion Willis died in an accident at a friend's house in November 2015. The dog was Zion's constant companion.

13-year-old Rosa Verrill discovered a dog wandering around her home in Seffner and organized a search with her family. The local vet removed the identification chip from under Sinatra's skin, but was unable to recover all the information.

The family contacted the Hillsborough County Pet Resource Center and looked up the potential owner's name and phone number. But the name, Willis Les, turned out to be incomprehensible, and the number was incorrect - only one digit.

With all the information that they managed to get, the family went to social networks and found Lesmore Willis, whom she decided to write to. This accidental, in fact, hit was the most correct.

A few days later, Willis replied that he had a dog, but she disappeared a long time ago. Comparing the data, they both talked about an animal that had a problem with the right leg.

After Lesmore was shown the photograph, everything was resolved - it was the same dog.

Willis could barely control his emotions - for months he thought that this connection with his late daughter was forever lost for him and his wife Maria. In his temporary home, Sinatra, like his namesake, seems to enjoy singing - he happily sings a duet with his owner's dog.

“That’s the funniest thing,” said Rose’s mother, Denise Verrill. “He was such a wonderful guest and such a sweet dog. I understand why they love him so much."

When Sinatra disappeared after Zion’s death, the girl’s parents thought that the dog, as usual, ran off to hunt squirrel and raccoons. But he always returned in no more than 30 minutes. This time the dog did not return.

“It was her dog, and their bond was strong,” the father says. “Their love was obvious. When the dog left, it was like losing a part of Zion.”

Willis and his wife put up ads and actively searched for a dog for several months. They had already lost hope and decided that they would never see him again.

Now the man believes that other people could have found the dog and tried to tame him, but he just continued to run away. Both Verrill and Willis are confident that the animal did not go all the way with its legs.

Willis took the dog home yesterday - they should be on their way now. According to the owner, the dog has a large turkey leg left over from Thanksgiving waiting for him at home.
