There is very little time left before the start of Judgment Day, which means we still have one last, hypothetical opportunity to influence the decision of the Almighty, who determines our destiny. Moreover, in my opinion, this concerns not only the Jews: as you know, on the Day of Judgment the world’s first verdict was confirmed - the verdict against Adam, passed on Rosh Hashanah. So it turns out that Adams of all nationalities should think about this day. And to all the evas too. Since those ancient times, the system has worked unchanged: on the Jewish New Year, the consideration of our personal cases begins, and ten days later a verdict is made. There will be no appeal.

Judgment Day, without a doubt, is the most important day of the year. Perhaps, this is the only day when not only religious, but also non-observant Jews, including absolutely secular ones, approach God. In any case, in Israel you will not see a single car in the streets, but you will be able to see people in the synagogue who last went there a long time ago - exactly a year ago.
Here in America, Yom Kippur acquired something of a non-working day official status. How else to explain that many offices, businesses, schools in New York are empty or almost empty? On this day, driving around Manhattan is much easier than usual: there are no usual traffic jams. Personally, I made the following conclusion: in the “capital of the world”, the majority of the population are made up of Jews and “twin persons” who, out of respect for their spouses, also stay at home.

The day is dedicated to prayers and repentance. Many completely irreligious people not only go to synagogues, but also abstain from food. And I think that's right. It seems to me very important that for any person, regardless of his beliefs, there is a day when he can, what is called, “stop, look back,” take moral stock, repent of something, rethink something, break away from everyday life. routine, to slow down the crazy wheel in which we have been spinning for the remaining three hundred and sixty-four days. And what the Almighty will forgive us, and what He will severely punish us for, He knows best.

I hope that the Lord will not be very strict with us - such a number of true sinners and villains, including Jewish nationality, safely live in the world, which makes it possible to conclude that the Almighty is distinguished by divine patience and condescension.
In addition, for some reason I am sure that a decent person, regardless of whether he observes tradition or not, has more hope of receiving a soft sentence than someone who has lied all year, stole, slandered, shat from the corner and podderchal, and now deceptively swaying in the synagogue, uttering the words of the prayer ...

On the Day of Judgment, people say “Gmar Khatima Tovah” to each other, which translates as “the final good signature,” meaning the sentence that you are given in Heaven. By the way, from Hebrew “Khatima” is translated both as a signature and as a seal. Perhaps this means that the signature, which is about to appear under the scroll of each of us, is sealed with a divine seal. I wish you a good signature and stamp. Gmar hatima tova.
