Poroshenko: opponents of the Boeing tribunal take responsibility
President Petro Poroshenko believes that Russia, by opposing the convening of a tribunal for the Boeing crash, thereby takes responsibility for the disaster upon itself.
He said this in an interview with CNN.
“Unfortunately, this was to be expected. This is very bad, because after the investigation there should be a second stage - responsibility. Terrorist Responsibility for Killing Innocent Victims from Malaysian Airplane. We support an international criminal tribunal, which must be approved by the UN Security Council. If someone wants to stop this process, then he takes responsibility,” said the President of Ukraine.
He also accused the Russian military of supplying weapons to militants across an uncontrolled section of the border. According to Poroshenko, this is how the Buk air defense system, from which the Boeing was shot down, ended up in Donbass.
During a telephone conversation with Dutch Prime Minister Mark Rutte, Russian President Vladimir Putin opposed the creation of an international tribunal for prosecution of those responsible for the crash of a Malaysian Boeing near Donetsk.
According to Putin, such an initiative of other countries is “premature and counterproductive,” the Kremlin’s website says. The Russian leader believes that in order to make a decision on the establishment of a tribunal and to attract the guilty, “active work is needed to complete the international investigation, which must be thorough and objective, independent and comprehensive.”
