A policeman who shot a black man got 20 years in prison

Police officer Michael Sledger, who shot the black driver Walter Scott with eight shots in the back, was sentenced to 20 years in prison. Prosecutors asked him for 36 years in prison.

After that, the video shows how a black man begins to run away from the policeman who shoots him in the back. According to Sledgeer, he shot a man, as he was afraid for his life. However, the video shows that at the time of the incident a black man was not armed.

The policeman had every chance of remaining unpunished: after the murder, he picked up his shocker from the ground and laid him next to Scott, after which he called for reinforcements. The shocker that was taken away also figured in the original report compiled by Slinger and his colleague, black officer Clarence Habershem, as an explanation of the danger that Scott represented. The same version was stated by the lawyer of Sangger David Eilor the day after the murder. Everything changed by chance: a video appeared on the Internet, filmed by a witness, which captures the murder itself and the subsequent actions of Sledgeer.

After the video was published, the case took a completely different turn. Sledger was arrested, a lawyer refused, and he was fired from the North Charleston Police. Demonstrations against racism and police brutality broke out throughout the country, during which dozens of people were arrested.
