The Pentagon secretly studied UFOs for several years
In 2007, the Pentagon, by order of Congress, created an unofficial program to study UFOs (unidentified flying objects).
Over the five years of the program’s existence, 22 spent a million dollars annually on it, writes Politico.
The program was aimed at studying the flying objects, which were observed by pilots and military personnel.
According to them, the aircraft they saw were much more advanced than in the official arsenals of various countries of the world. In some cases, they maneuvered very unusually and so quickly that it seemed as if their movement contradicted the laws of physics. Such conclusions follow from numerous documents on work. the Pentagon’s secret program, sources familiar with the research told reporters about its findings.
The existence of an enhanced aviation threat identification program (The Advanced Aviation Threat Identification Program - AATIP) was not classified, but an extremely limited number of officials knew about it. The Pentagon officially confirmed the existence of the program on December 15.
One of the reasons for the emergence of the program was the assumption by American experts that some state, perhaps China or Russia, developed the next generation technologies that were used to create new aircraft that could threaten the United States.
During the program, interviews were conducted with all pilots who reported unusual flying objects they saw in the sky.
According to a Pentagon spokesperson, AATIP was curtailed in 2012, but recently it attracted attention because of the resignation of intelligence officer Luis Elizondo, who led the initiative, in early October. In his letter of resignation addressed to the head of the Department of Defense, James Mattis, Elizondo stated that the Pentagon did not take seriously the activities of researchers working under this program.
The Pentagon noted that the program turned 5 years ago because of the change of "priorities of the department."
However, according to sources NBC News, the program continues to operate, and officials are investigating UFO reports as usual.
At the same time, the Pentagon did not clarify whether, after 2012, another program or a direction for studying UFOs after the closure of AATIP was created.
“The Department of Defense takes seriously all threats and potential threats to our people, our assets and our mission and takes action whenever it receives credible information about possible threats,” the department said.
