Why is life expectancy falling in the USA

In the US, the retirement age is growing, and life expectancy is falling. This is evidenced by data published last week, writes Bloomberg.

They show declining health and longevity, and millions of middle-aged people face the prospect of shrinking and less active retirement than their parents.

The age at which people can claim their social security benefits gradually increases from 65 years for those who retired in the 2002 year to 67 for those who go to the 2027 year.

Almost every third retiree at the age of 65-69 years still works, and almost every fifth who turned 70 years.

But the study this month shows a disappointing trend not only for pension plans. According to the magazine Health Affairs, Americans at the age of 50 years already have more serious health problems than people at the same age of 10-15 years ago.

Cognitive skills also declined over time. According to the study, 11% of those who retire at 66 years have already had some kind of dementia or other cognitive decline in age from 58 to 60 years.

Although mortality rates vary from year to year, the study of Choi and Sheni is associated with other studies showing deterioration in American health.

Researchers have proposed many theories why this is happening. Princeton University scientists Ann Case and Angus Deaton, a Nobel Prize winner, argued that the increase in suicide, drug overdose and alcohol abuse caused an increase in mortality among white people of middle age.
