From human smuggling to drugs: 16 marines arrested in the US
More than a dozen American infantrymen were arrested on various charges: from people smuggling to drug-related crimes, writes Fox News.

The US Marine Corps in a press release stated that during the formation of the battalion at Camp Pendleton in California, the 16 marines were arrested.
A spokesman for the Marine Corps added that none of the detainees had been formally charged.
“Information obtained from a previous human smuggling investigation accelerated the arrests,” USMC officials said in a statement.

Officials added that even the Marines 8 are being questioned about their involvement in alleged crimes with drugs that are not related to major arrests on Thursday.
None of the marines arrested or detained for interrogation on Thursday served in the ongoing mission of supporting the south-western border, the marines said.

“1st Marine Division is committed to justice and the rule of law, and we will continue to fully cooperate with the Naval Criminal Investigative Service (NCIS) on this matter,” officials said in a statement.
Officials did not disclose the names of arrested marines and did not disclose further details of the alleged crimes.
Earlier this month, according to a federal complaint of Fox 5, two marines from Camp Pendleton were arrested and accused of transporting illegal immigrants for money.
Byron Darnell Lowe II and David Javier Salazar-Quintero were arrested on July 3 in the Eastern District of San Diego.
