Etsy online store has banned selling amulets

The well-known online store Etsy, which mainly sells hand-made products by private craftsmen, has banned selling amulets.

The trade in magic potions, spells, curses and other “paranormal” services and items was also banned.

“Any metaphysical services that guarantee or suggest a physical change (e.g., weight loss) or other outcome (e.g., love, revenge) are not permitted, even if sold as a physical object,” according to the new rules resource use.

Previously, Etsy's rules also prohibited the sale of services and intangible objects, but allowed the sale, for example, of magic crystals - objects with a physical embodiment.

This step, the publication explains, can be triggered by the transfer of Etsy to another form of public administration. Also, US law prohibits businesses from placing advertisements that mislead the customer.

Many site users were outraged by the new norms. Upset makers of "metaphysical items" have begun collecting signatures on a petition to get Etsy to lift the ban. More than 3,5 thousand people have already signed it.

Etsy spokeswoman Sarah Cohen clarified that the company's new policy does not discriminate against anyone and does not target "witches, Wiccans, or any other religion."
