One person died, dozens fell ill: Listeria-infected ice cream is recalled in Florida
Florida ice cream brand Big Olaf Creamery is responsible for the listeria outbreak that has killed one person and infected nearly two dozen others, according to the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). FOXBusiness.
The CDC has advised consumers to throw away any Big Olaf Creamery brand ice cream they have and to wash dishes that may have come into contact with the product. Big Olaf ice cream is only sold in Florida.
The CDC website lists 23 ice cream brand-related infections, 22 hospitalizations, and one death in 10 different states.

"Big Olaf Creamery in Sarasota, Florida is voluntarily contacting outlets to recommend not selling their ice cream until further notice," the CDC noted.
Listeria has a long time window for the onset of symptoms. In some patients, symptoms do not appear until 70 days after eating contaminated foods.
Big Olaf Creamery claimed "nothing has been proven" regarding the link between the brand and the outbreak.
"At this point, these are only speculations as the investigation continues, our brand's connection to these cases has not been confirmed, I'm not sure why only Big Olaf Creamery is being mentioned and prosecuted," the company said in a social media statement.
“The initial report we received from the Florida Department of Health on Friday, July 1 was that there were 23 cases, the first reported in January 2022. 6 out of 23 patients mentioned eating Big Olaf ice cream, but nothing was proven. We cooperated with the Florida Department of Health, the FDACS and the FDA as soon as we were briefed on the situation. We cooperated and answered all their questions and provided them with all the information requested from us, as the health and well-being of the population is our top priority,” the statement said.

Symptoms of listeriosis, a disease caused by Listeria, include fever, muscle pain, headache, stiff neck, confusion, loss of balance, and seizures, according to the CDC.
