The new aircraft of the President of the United States will be Boeing 747-8
The United States Air Force will order from Boeing to manufacture new aircraft for the presidential fleet. The transaction will be carried out without a tender, bidding will be held for the supply of specialized equipment for the new aircraft, reports Bloomberg, citing a statement by the head of the Air Force Deborah James.
For the head of state, Boeing will manufacture three passenger liners of the Boeing 747-8 modification. According to the Air Force, this is the only aircraft produced in the United States that meets all the necessary critical requirements.
The competition will be held for the purchase of systems such as advanced electronics and communications. The European manufacturer Airbus intends to participate in the auction. Boeing, starting in 1962, is the only supplier of aircraft used by US presidents. On all the “number one sides” there is a presidential suite, a conference room, special communication facilities and an increased level of security.
The aircraft is able to refuel in the air and serve as a mobile command center if the United States becomes the object of military attack. The president is currently using Boeing 747-200 liners. The budget of the Air Force to 2019 year laid $ 1,6 billion for the replacement program of presidential aircraft.
