New DPRK rocket can reach anywhere in the US

North Korea announced on Wednesday a successful test of an intercontinental ballistic missile (ICBM) of a new type capable of reaching any point of the mainland USA, including Washington.

According to "Voice of America", a report carried by North Korean state television said the powerful new rocket reached an altitude of approximately 4475 kilometers, 10 times higher than the orbit of the International Space Station, and flew 950 kilometers during the 53-minute flight.

Watching the successful launch of a new type of ICBM, Hwaseong-15, the North Korean leader Kim Jong-un proudly announced that his country had accomplished the great historical task of forming state nuclear forces and creating a missile power, said in a statement read by the television announcer.

In a statement, North Korea described itself as a "responsible nuclear power", but warned that its strategic weapons are being created to protect its sovereignty and territorial integrity from the "nuclear blackmail and nuclear threats pursued by the US imperialists."

"We will deal with this," - responded to the launch of US President Donald Trump.

“This is a situation that we can handle,” the president told reporters at the White House, without going into details.

However, he noted that the US approach to North Korea remains unchanged.

Secretary of Defense Jim Mattis noted that this missile flew longer and rose above all previous missiles launched by North Korea. He called the launch part of the work of Pyongyang to create missiles that can "threaten any place in the world."

Mattis said North Korea is a danger to world peace.

According to the initial estimates of the Pentagon, the rocket was launched from the San Ni area to the north of Pyongyang. It flew about a thousand kilometers, after which it fell into the Sea of ​​Japan, in the exclusive economic zone of Japan, which is sovereign Japanese territory.

The Union of Concerned Scientists said that if the Pentagon’s estimates are correct, then the rocket has sufficient range to strike at any point in the continental US, including Washington. At the same time, the organization noted that such a missile is not capable of carrying a nuclear warhead, since the weapon will be too heavy.

Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe called for an extraordinary meeting of the UN Security Council and promised to protect the Japanese people.

“We will never accept this violence and declare a strong protest to North Korea,” Abe told reporters.

The UN Security Council has confirmed that it will meet in a meeting at 16: 00 on Wednesday.

Trump and Abe discussed the situation by telephone. According to the White House, both leaders agreed that North Korea’s actions undermine the security of the DPRK and lead to its further isolation from the international community.

Trump also spoke with South Korean President Moon Jae-Ying, who, like Trump, said that North Korean missile launches are a threat not only to Korea and the United States, but to the whole world.
