A strong snow storm is approaching the northeast United States.

Winter storm Stella is approaching the east coast of the United States; it is expected to hit the northeastern states in the evening of March 13, bringing with it heavy snowfalls that will last until the end of March 14 day.

The snow will be accompanied by strong winds, speeds up to 80 km per hour, which can cut off power lines and lead to the cancellation of thousands of flights, reports USA Today.

Meteorologists have issued a heavy snow warning for New York, northern New Jersey and southern Connecticut. More than 19 million people live in areas where blizzards are expected.

Light snow is forecast to begin Monday night and become heavier early Tuesday morning. The heaviest snowfall is expected on March 14 in the afternoon. Snow and rain are expected in areas near the coast. Some parts of the northeastern states, particularly New York and Boston, will see up to 30-45 cm of snow. In Philadelphia, 20-35 cm of snow is expected; in Baltimore - 15-25 cm; in Washington - 10-20 cm.

The air temperature in New York will drop to 1 - 7 degrees below zero Celsius, writes New York Post.

Stella has already caused snowfall in the Midwest. South Dakota, Minnesota and Iowa fell from 12 to 23 snow; in the morning of March 13, snowfall began in Illinois, Indiana, Ohio and Michigan.

As of 8: 00 13 March, due to the storm, more than 750 flights have already been canceled. Also, airports announced the cancellation of almost 1000 flights 14 March. If weather forecasts are correct, then it is possible that Kennedy and La Guardia airports in New York, Liberty in New Arca and Logan in Boston will cancel most flights on Tuesday. On the morning of March 15, bad weather can lead to the cancellation of some flights at some airports in New England.
