Israel is experiencing a surge in illegal immigration from the CIS countries

79 000 citizens of Ukraine and Georgia are illegally in Israel. According to the Minister of Internal Affairs of Israel Aryeh Deri, people, having entered as tourists under the visa-free regime, did not leave the territory of the Jewish state. He noted that illegally entering Israeli territory from African countries are only a small part of illegal immigrants in Israel - 39 000 (excluding children born in Israel). Arieh Dery stated this at a meeting of the parliamentary internal affairs commission.

“Infiltration from African countries is a serious problem, but currently we are faced with another, no less serious problem - illegal migration from the republics of the former USSR,” explained the Minister of Internal Affairs.

The minister said that buses bring so-called “tourists” to apply for asylum directly from the airport, and after submitting such a request it is impossible to expel a tourist from the country before considering it, which takes a lot of time because of the large number of requests. According to Dery, in Israel there is a whole network of unscrupulous intermediaries who receive $ 5000 for admission and the primary device of illegal immigrants.

“With all due respect to the citizens of these countries and their problems, we cannot allow the creation of a “state within a state” in Tel Aviv. However, sometimes there is a feeling that illegal immigrants consider the territory they occupy to be theirs,” said the head of the Ministry of Internal Affairs.

Deri added that since January 2016, only 18 illegal immigrants from African countries have penetrated into Israel, and not one in 2017. Over the same period, 500 Africans left the country.
