The man was held hostage for three years in order to get his apartment in the capital

The police freed a resident of Kiev, who was held captive by the attackers for three years. They wanted to take over his apartment. Writes about it with the BBC.

According to the chief of police in Kiev, Andriy Krishchenko, the victim has been on the list of missing persons since 2017.

However, recently, law enforcement officers received information about the possible whereabouts of the wanted person, in particular, in the Nikolaev region.

“During the investigation, a 52-year-old victim was found in the premises of the attackers, as well as a 49-year-old Kiev resident, who was probably also forcibly detained,” Krischenko said.

As they say in the metropolitan prosecutor's office, at least the first of the defendants in the case was imprisoned in order to take possession of his apartment in Kiev.

Three people involved in the crime have already been detained - we are talking about natives of the Nikolaev and Zaporozhye regions.

They have already been taken to Kiev: the establishment of all the details of the case and the clarification of the role of each of the detainees is still ahead.

The case was opened under articles on illegal imprisonment, kidnapping and fraud.

The accused face up to 12 years in prison with confiscation of property.

At the same time, the police in Kiev say that during the investigative actions, another woman turned to them, who said that the same people fraudulently took possession of her house, and she herself was settled in a private house in one of the villages of the Nikolaev region.

The police are still checking this information for possible involvement of the detainees in other crimes.
