Mayor of New York opened the "Russian Heritage Month"

The Russian-American Culture Foundation, headed by Marina Kovaleva, opened the next Month of Russian Heritage in New York. A solemn reception with the participation of New York Mayor Bill de Blasio, as usual, was held in the Egyptian hall of the Metropolitan Museum

“Good evening,” the mayor, who was present at the invitation of the President of the World Forum of Russian-Speaking Jewry, Alexander Levin, addressed those present in Russian. Bill de Blasio said that the formation and development of cultural ties within the Russian-speaking community of America is the most important task of such events. Following a good tradition, the reception was attended by diplomats from Ukraine, Belarus, Kazakhstan and Israel, Russia and Azerbaijan.

At the opening of the festival, they also announced a joint project of the Russian-American Cultural Foundation and the main website of Russian-speaking America - ForumDaily.com - “Russian-Speaking Person of the Year 2016”.

The program of the festival, which will last until the end of June, includes exhibitions of Russian and American artists, concerts, meetings.

From 31 May to 11 June, a unique exhibition will be held, dedicated to the third wave of immigrants from Russia and the magazine New American. At the exhibition, visitors will learn about the cultural heritage of the most prominent representatives of the third wave of emigration (Sergey Dovlatov, Alexander Genis, Alexey Orlov and others). Rare exhibits, as well as works by famous photographers (Nina Alovert, Lana Ford, Lev Polyakov and others) will be presented here. Visitors will be able to see the work of Vagrich Bakhchanyan, Konstantin Khudyakov, Vitaly Komar and other artists.

2 June in the National Society of Arts, as well as 6 and 7 in June at the YIVO Institute will host the film festival "New Earth", in which will show documentaries about the outstanding personalities of the emigration of the so-called third wave.

The 1 program of the day opens with a tour of the galleries of the National Society of Arts and the screening of two documentaries: “Vagrich and Black Square” (about Vagrich Bakhchanyan) by Andrey Zagdansky and “Demarche Enthusiast” (about Sergey Dovlatov) by Sergey Kokovkin.

The festival will feature virtuoso cellist Philip Quint. The concert under the traditional name of "Philip Quint and his friends" this year will be held on June 5. The performance will be devoted to Russian and Jewish classical music, and the duo of Ani and Martha Aznavouryan will join the famous musician. Visitors will also be able to see an exhibition of Stradivari instruments courtesy of the Stradivari Society of Chicago.

6 June: Ilya and Emilia Kabakov: The Art of Departure, directed by David Grubin, “Joseph Brodsky. Landscape with a flood ”- Sergey Kokovkin, Stateless - Michael Drob. June 7: “Bob is a great sapper sapper” and “These are the cakes,” directed by Edward Staroselsky, in collaboration with YIVO Institute for Jewish Research.

During the festival, live performances of music and dance groups will take place, a chess tournament will take place, children's creative teams will perform. Visitors will be able to taste Russian traditional cuisine and get acquainted with various organizations of the Russian-speaking community.

The annual “Month of the Russian Heritage of America” has been running since 2003.
