Mayor of New York is considering deleting the database of illegal immigrants

A database containing information on illegal immigrants living in New York will not be available to Donald Trump before the inauguration, which is scheduled for January 20 and 2017. This was announced by New York Mayor Bill De Blasio after Trump's unexpected victory in the November 8 2016 election of the year.

The mayor also did not rule out the possibility of deleting databases containing personal information about more than 85 thousands of New York City residents owning NYC ID.

One of the points from the NYC ID Act says that by the end of the year, personal information in the database may be destroyed.

“We are not going to separate families from each other. We will do everything in our power to prevent this,” De Blasio said.

The IDNYC program was launched in New York last year. Among the goals of this project are organizers called opportunity for immigrants to get an identity card. It should be noted that in fact the ID NYC card allows only to use several entertainment and cultural institutions and libraries. In addition, receive a discount in stores and concert halls, as well as upon receipt of drugs by prescription in pharmacies.

The personal data of IDNYC holders, including addresses and dates of birth, are stored in encrypted databases and servers. Information may not be disclosed to federal law enforcement or immigration authorities without the permission of the city administration. Candidates do not have to disclose their immigration status in order to receive a card.

Mayor: confidentiality will be respected

During the entire election campaign, Trump announced the expulsion of immigrants from the country, so after his election, many fear that he will actually deal with deportation.

At the start of his campaign in 2015, Trump announced that he was deporting around 11 a million illegal immigrants to the United States, creating a target group for this within the framework of immigration and customs legislation.

Later he changed his plan and said that “he would focus on the identification and deportation of the most dangerous illegal criminals”. Trump also said he opposes any amnesty for undocumented people.

“Trump may change some federal laws, but the Constitution protects rights and responsibilities,” Bill De Blasio said.

Election of the President of the United States passed 8 November. According to popular vote, Clinton won - 60,1 million votes, but Trump was supported by more electors (290 against 228).

The electoral college will meet on December 19 for the formal election of the 45 president, and on January 6, Congress will approve its results. The inauguration of the new president is scheduled for January 20 2017.
