Meta has not yet commented on the failure. It is unknown what causes the problems with access to social networks. But on the morning of March 5, communication cables between Europe, Asia and Africa, which accounted for 25% of underwater traffic in the region, were cut in the Red Sea. This was announced by Hong Kong-based telecom operator HGC Global Communications Limited.

The links in question are Asia-Africa-Europe 1 (AAE-1), Europe India Gateway, Seacom and TGN, which are “critical for data transmission from Asia to Europe.” The damaged cable segments are located in the southern Red Sea and fall under the jurisdiction of Yemen. Yemen's Houthi rebels are suspected of sabotage.

The company emphasized that they were prepared in advance for such a development of events, taking into account previous experience, and had already begun to redirect traffic flows along other lines, reports Slow.
