Mark Zuckerberg came to the European Parliament to report on the data protection of users of Facebook

The head of Facebook on Tuesday spoke at the European Parliament on the issue of leakage of users 'personal data through Cambridge Analytica, which studied voters' preferences and used them during the 2016 election campaign of the year in the United States.

According to Voice of America, Zuckerberg, speaking to European parliamentarians, acknowledged his company's mistakes in the security of user data and told how his team is working to correct the situation.

Zuckerberg noted that in 2016, Facebook was focused on countering more traditional cyberattacks. “But we were not prepared for the coordinated disinformation operation that we now know about,” he said.

According to Zuckerberg, in 2016 the company was “too slow to identify Russian influence in the US presidential election.”

The head of Facebook said that by the end of 2018, the company would double the number of employees responsible for security on the social network. In Europe, Zuckerberg intends to increase the staff to 10 000 employees.

In April, Mark Zuckerberg for two days answered questions from US congressmen in connection with the leakage of user data and the spread of fake news.

In 2018, it became known that tens of millions of Facebook users were illegally made available to the company. Cambridge Analytica, which was engaged in political consulting and collaborated with the headquarters of Donald Trump. Thereafter Facebook tightened the rules for using user data.

Facebook also became one of the social networks where employees of the Russian Internet Research Agency posted posts about politics on behalf of Americans, trying, as they believe in the United States, to sow discord in the society during the election period.
