Famous tennis player Maria Sharapova became a figurant of a fraud case investigated by the police in New Delhi, India.

It all started when a New Delhi resident contacted the local police after, as developers did not pass on time an elite residential complex Ballet by Sharapova, writes Rtvi.

Its construction was supposed to end in 2016, but the building has not yet been built.

In response to the appeal of the woman, the police opened a criminal case against the developers Homestead Infrastructure Maintenance and Homestead Arabic Homes.

Maria Sharapova was the face of the advertising company for the complex that bears her name. She flew to India specifically in 2012, to star in an advertising project. Online Ballet by Sharapova saidthat in Gurgaon (a suburb of New Delhi) they will build an 42-storeyed skyscraper with 129 “unique” apartments. The territory should have made a tennis and ballet academy.

The lawyer of the plaintiff claims that the construction was stopped after they raised money from a thousand and a half clients who wanted to invest in this property. In his opinion, Sharapova was in a criminal conspiracy with developers. He believes that the tennis player actively helped businessmen create a good reputation for the project.

“If it weren’t for Sharapova’s name, far fewer people would have trusted the developers,” the lawyer explained.

Maria Sharapova in the twentieth century was the first racket of the world, entering the list of the highest paid athletes in the world, largely due to its advertising contracts.

In 2015 year Forbes included her list of the highest paid athletes of the decade and rated her fortune at $ 250 million.

At the start of 2016, its revenues plummeted after Sharapova disqualified due to the use of Meldonium. Shortly thereafter, many of its advertisers announced that they would stop working with an athlete.
