The legendary "Schindler's list" will be sold at auction in the US

One of the first documents used by the German industrialist to save the lives of more than 1200 Jewish workers during the Holocaust went on sale. Reports the edition about it The Guardian. It is expected that the cost of the document will be more than $ 2.4 million.

This is one of 7 lists kept by Schindler's accountant Itzhak Stern, dated April 18, 1945. It contains 801 Jewish males who worked in Schindler's factory in occupied Czechoslovakia. Schindler took them out of German-occupied Poland along with his production.

The dealer's website states that the document is an "extremely rare original" and the only one being sold at auction. Three other documents are located in Israel at the Holocaust Memorial Museum and one at the Holocaust Museum in Washington, DC.

This list was used to protect workers rescued from the Schindler camp when Nazi Germany began to close its concentration camps, transporting prisoners to gas chambers in Auschwitz.

Schindler, using bribery to protect the Jews working at his plant, persuaded the commandant of the concentration camp Amon Geth to allow him to transport workers to the Sudetenland. This step saved them from certain death.

The industrialist spent all his fortune on bribes to save his workers from the gas chamber and in 1963, the Israeli government was awarded the title “Righteous Among the Nations of the World”. After his death in 1974, he became the only former member of the Nazi party who was buried on Mount Zion in Jerusalem.

More than 8 thousands of people are descendants of the Jews who were saved by Schindler.
