Kremlin calls new US sanctions 'draconian'

The Russian Embassy in the United States stated that the American side did not provide any explanation for the sanctions announced by the State Department in connection with the use of the Novice nerve agent in the UK, writes RBC.

A report from the Russian embassy in the United States, published on the social networking site Facebook, indicates that representatives of the United States informed about new “draconian sanctions” related to accusations against Moscow of using Novice. The embassy stated that “the American side refused to answer subsequent questions,” explaining that the information is classified.

"We were told that the US has enough information to conclude that Russia is to blame," the embassy stressed.

The diplomatic mission said that Russia still supports open investigation of the crime in Salisbury and bringing those responsible to justice.

The evening of August 8 US Department of State объявилthat in the 22 region of August, a package of sanctions will be introduced in respect of Russia, stipulated by the 1991 law on counteraction to countries using chemical and biological weapons. These sanctions limit the export of dual-use items. The 1991 Act of the Year, in particular, states that if a country does not abandon the use of chemical weapons during the next three months and does not allow independent observers to enter, the second package of sanctions will come into force. It also provides for a reduction in the level of diplomatic relations, minimization of foreign trade relations and the prohibition of the airline (Aeroflot) on flights to the USA.

The reason for the sanctions was allegedly Russia's involvement in the case of the poisoning of the former GRU colonel Sergey Skripal and his daughter Yulia in the British city of Salisbury.

In Russia, they categorically deny involvement in this crime, insisting on an open investigation.
