Kaspersky told how his company received the secret documents of the NSA

Moscow-based Kaspersky Lab has admitted that its antivirus software received the source code for an American hacker tool from a personal computer in the United States.

Although the company gave a plausible explanation for what happened, as some experts predicted, representatives of the US authorities who offered to abandon the laboratory’s products on computers containing confidential information would most likely pay attention to the fact that, according to the company’s statement, it had withdrawn the secret code that did not represent threats to the user.

The company said in a statement that it found this code a year earlier than media reports in 2014. When analyzing the contents of the file, the analyst found that it contains the source code for the hacker tool, which, as was established later, is associated with the grouping Equation Group. The analyst reported this to the head of the company, Evgeny Kaspersky, who ordered to destroy a copy of the code, the company said.

Newspaper Wall Street Journal October 5 reported that hackers working for the Russian government allegedly tried to gain access to the NSA employee’s materials using Kaspersky Lab's software to detect secret files. Newspaper New York Times October 10 reported that the Israeli authorities notified the USA about this operation after breaking into the Kaspersky Lab network.

September 13 US Government banned federal agencies to use Kaspersky products. The company's founder was called to testify to the US Congress. Kaspersky himself denies all accusations against him and the address of his company. He said he was ready to come to a meeting in Congress if he was given an American visa in time.
