Part of the famous California highway has collapsed into the ocean: now you can’t get to popular parks
In California, on March 30, a section of the famous Big Sur highway, which runs over the Pacific coast, collapsed, reports CNN.
The collapse occurred during heavy rain near the Rocky Creek Bridge, about 27 kilometers south of Monterey. Chunks of asphalt fell into the ocean on the south side of the two-lane road.
Around noon on March 31, emergency crews determined it was safe to travel in the northbound lane.
Authorities began periodically escorting motorists through the damaged area. About 300 cars were waiting to pass. Officials escort vehicles in convoys through the area.

Big Sur parks in the affected area are closed "until further notice," according to the California Department of Parks and Recreation.
Which parks are closed:
- Pfeiffer Big Sur State Park$
- Andrew Molera State Park$
- Limekiln State Park;
- Julia Pfeiffer Burns State Park;
- Point Sur State Historic Park.
Those who have booked a campsite will receive a refund.
