How to listen to the US anthem: official rules

Many official events in the United States, as well as abroad, where representatives of the United States are present, are accompanied by the sound of the national anthem of the country.

The US government has released a guide on how to properly listen to the national musical symbol of the state, which is placed in US Flag Code.

1. During the performance of the national anthem of the United States, all those present at the event, except for the military in official form, must face the flag, holding their right hand in heart as a sign of respect.

2. If, for some reason, there is no flag at the event, you need to turn to face the orchestra or the place where the music comes from, and act as if there was a flag.

3. If you are not in uniform, take off your hat, cap, or other headgear and hold it under your left hand while holding your right hand over your heart.

4. The military should take the position of a military salute (to pay tribute) when the first notes of the anthem are heard, and remain in that position until the end of the music.
