Due to a virus in the New Jersey Medical Center, the tenth child died

At the New Jersey Medical Center, an 10 child died, catching an adenovirus infection here, according to the New Jersey State Department of Health.

Nine other “medically weak” children in the Wanaque Center for Nursing and Rehabilitation, Passejk district, recently died after an outbreak of adenoviral infection occurred in the center.

The department states that the cases at the 27 center were associated with a respiratory virus. The affected children had severe impairment of the immune system. Among the cases there was also an employee of the institution, which is now recovering.

Meanwhile, four confirmed cases of adenoviral infection have been reported among pediatric patients in the Voorhees institution, near Philadelphia.

According to the State Department of Health, the medical center is experiencing a “severe outbreak” of adenovirus infection, a group of human infectious diseases caused by adenoviruses. The facility has been instructed not to admit new patients until the outbreak is over. The center has set up a 24-hour hotline for affected families.

“The loss of these little lives is heartbreaking and our thoughts and prayers are with the families affected,” said Health Commissioner Dr. Sheirf Elnahal. “We work closely with the site to conduct respiratory disease surveillance and ensure all infection control protocols are followed at all times. We are also engaged in discussions with the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services on standards for these facilities.”

Adenoviruses are common viruses that can cause a number of diseases, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. Viruses cause colds: sore throat, bronchitis, pneumonia, diarrhea, and redness of the eyes. Adenoviruses can cause serious complications in some people, especially in weakened immune systems, respiratory diseases, and heart disease.

According to the CDC, adenoviruses usually spread from an infected person to others through tactile contacts or a handshake; airborne during coughing or sneezing; or contact with an infected surface, followed by contact with the mucous membrane of the eyes, mouth, or nose.
