Due to looting, robberies and false police in Houston, a curfew was imposed
The Houston authorities have imposed a curfew at night against the backdrop of a massive natural disaster caused by the tropical storm Harvey.
According to "Voice of America“, the authorities were alarmed by cases of looting, armed robberies and incidents where people pretended to be police officers.
The curfew will last from midnight until 5 in the morning for an indefinite period. The city also attracts additional policemen from other regions.
“You cannot be driving, you cannot be in public places. “We have problems with armed robberies, with people with guns,” said Houston police chief Art Azevedo.
After Houston hit record rains caused by the Harvey storm, tens of thousands of people left the flooded houses.
The storm brought catastrophic floods to Texas. Element caused the death of at least 12 people and paralyzed Houston, the fourth largest city in the United States.
According to some estimates, the damage could amount to tens of billions of dollars, so Harvey could become one of the most costly natural disasters in the United States.
The city is preparing to provide temporary shelter for about a thousand people to 19. Thousands of others are expected to leave the flooded area amid the almost complete filling of shelters by the fourth day of flooding.
About a third of the territory of Harris County was under water, according to the Houston Chronicle newspaper. The flooded area is 15 times the size of Manhattan.
Harvey influenced the work of an approximate fifth of the US refining capacity, raising concerns about possible deficiency gasoline. Gasoline futures hit a two-year high this week. Approximately 20 percent of refineries in Texas and Louisiana have suspended work, according to company reports and Reuters estimates.
The National Hurricane Center reported that 132 centimeters of rain fell as a result of the Harvey storm in Texas. This is a record figure not only for Texas, but for any storm in the continental United States.
