From Paris to Shanghai via Siberia: air travelers traveled for three days on three planes

The plane of the airline Air France, flying from Paris to Shanghai, 11 November urgently sat in Irkutsk due to smoke in the cockpit. For three days, passengers, including employees of the fashion house Louis Vuitton, could not leave Irkutsk. They tell about their adventures on Instagram.

The airline failed to take out the 282 passengers caught in Irkutsk the first time. On the backup plane that flew behind them the next day, 12 November, the hydraulic system broke down.

Among the passengers, judging by social networks, there are six people from the team of the French fashion house Louis Vuitton, two of whom actively talk about what they are doing in Irkutsk on Instagram. Their posts were noticed by the local publication Sia.ru.

“Almost Shanghai...” writes one of the users

Since they do not have Russian visas, they cannot leave the hotel, writes the user Corinne Lee (@corinneinparis). On LinkedIn, she is listed as head of the Louis Vuitton social networking department.

She posts photos tagging users Michela Rossetti (@at_mr) and Agnes Le Corollet (@agnes_lc). The first, according to LinkedIn, is an art director and senior graphic designer at a fashion house, the second is a senior project manager for social networks.

Judging by the posts, users were confident that the first reserve plane arriving in Irkutsk would pick them up, and actively published photos and videos of the “rescue.” However, soon after landing it turned out that the second plane had also broken down.

Passengers had time to land on the reserve board, arriving the next day, but soon they disembarked because of a hydraulic failure.

After that, they began publishing posts with the captions “stuck in Siberia.”

According to local media reports, the Louis Vuitton team was accommodated in the Angara Hotel overlooking Kirov Square. The same hotel is geotagged in Corinna Lee's stories.

On the second day, the residents of Irkutsk began writing to the French, and someone even gave them vodka, tincture, pine nuts and postcards.

For passengers on the flight Paris-Shanghai 13 November third flight took off. It is planned that he will arrive at 4 in the morning local time (to 23 hours in Moscow).

With the breakdowns of two other airliners in Irkutsk, French technicians, who arrived in Irkutsk as the first backup airliner, are now sorting out.

The third and last plane finally delivered passengers to Shanghai on Wednesday afternoon.

As the press service of Air France told RBC, all passengers will receive compensation for these delays. “The amount of compensation is still being calculated,” the airline said.
