The former head of the Yukos oil company, Mikhail Khodorkovsky, said that he was watching with interest the “nervous” reaction of the Russian authorities to the implementation of the decision of the Arbitration Court in The Hague in the case of the company’s former shareholders.

Khodorkovsky once again repeated that he himself is not a beneficiary in this process, since the partners bought out his share in the company back in 2004, but this does not prevent him “as a Russian citizen from sincerely enjoying what is happening.”

“This is a landmark moment for our country: firstly, a signal that robbery will not go unpunished, no matter how omnipotent the robber may seem. Secondly, this is a step towards strengthening property rights, without the inviolability of which the country cannot achieve sustainable prosperity,” Khodorkovsky wrote on his Facebook page.

Earlier, the entrepreneur wrote on Twitter that he hoped that the proceeds from the seizure of accounts would go to projects useful to Russian society.

The day before, Tim Osborne, the director of the GML company representing the interests of the former shareholders of YUKOS, said that blocking access to Russian property in Belgium и France - this is the beginning of the process of implementing the decision of the Arbitration Court in The Hague.

Last year, the Arbitration Court in The Hague ruled that Russia should compensate 52 billion dollars to former Yukos shareholders. The Russian side did not express any intention to execute the decision of the court and more than once declared its disagreement with it.

As Russian Minister of Finance Anton Siluanov said on Thursday, the decision of the Hague court will be challenged in the near future.

“A decision was made in the Arbitration Court of The Hague. We have filed for annulment of this decision. Our counterclaim has not yet been considered. According to estimates, it can be considered in November,” Siluanov said.
