Head of US National Intelligence Daniel Coats was surprised by the news that US President Donald Trump invited Russian President Vladimir Putin to a meeting in Washington. The announcement of this during an interview at a forum on security in Aspen was read to him by a journalist on the NBC News channel.

“Repeat, did I hear you correctly?” Coates laughed. “Good,” he drawled after the journalist read the news again. "This [Trump-Putin meeting in Washington] will be something special," the US intelligence chief added.

The fact that the American leader instructed his national security adviser John Bolton to invite Vladimir Putin to Washington earlier, on July 19, on his Twitter page was reported by White House spokesman Sarah Sanders. The next meeting of the heads of the United States and Russia, she said, could take place in the fall. In particular, John McCain referred to the joint briefing between Putin and Trump as “one of the most shameful speeches” of the US President. And Jean Shahin, in turn, demanded that Trump’s interpreter Marina Gross be summoned to Congress to testify (she was present at a personal meeting of the heads of Russia and the United States). Only this person, according to the senator, can help "determine what Trump shared or that he promised Putin on behalf of" the United States during intercourse behind closed doors.
