Festival 'Cherry Orchard': in New York will show the play 'Masquerade' Vakhtangov Theater

In New York on June 12, the Cherry Orchard Art Festival opens, during which the Vakhtangov State Academic Theater will present the performance Masquerade.

After three sold-out concerts in New York, the Vakhtangov Theater returns to this city with a new play “Masquerade”, directed by Rimas Tuminas. New Yorkers can expect 4 performances at once - from June 13 to 16.

The performance “Masquerade” was staged by a remarkable director Rimas Tuminas and based on the poetic drama by Mikhail Lermontov. The most famous Russian actors are involved in the play: Evgeny Knyazev, Lidiya Velezheva, Leonid Bichevin, Maria Volkova, Olga Nemogai, Yuri Shlykov and other stars.
“Masquerade” by Timinas is the merciless truth about contemporaries, a cruel world where morality walks on the edge of a knife.
But Masquerade is also a holiday, charming music, bright costumes, mysterious masks, attractive elements of fun, where they slander, joke, fool, while remaining unrecognized - freedom from everyone and myself.

Masquerade is a theater of characters, intrigue, flirting, hot confessions and dangerous revelations. Fools, cynics, mystifiers, clowns, hypocrites, romantic heroes go through a series of "unaware of shame", protected by ignorance.

“Masquerade” by R. Tuminas is a clown show, tragi fi ce, the sad comedy of Del Arte, overturned in our days, spun to the sounds of A. Khachaturian’s waltz, after decades having returned to the Vakhtang scene for which it was written.

The work is delivered in Russian with English subtitles.
