FBI launches new investigation into Clinton

The US Department of Justice launched a new investigation into Hillary Clinton and her family’s foundation while she held the post of secretary of state, reports The Hill.

FBI officials from Little Rock, Ark., Took the lead in the investigation and interviewed at least one witness last month, and law enforcement officials said additional polls are expected in the coming weeks.

Officials who spoke to journalists on condition of anonymity stated that the investigation was considering whether Hillary Clinton had promised political campaign and other benefits to campaign sponsors if Hillary Clinton had promised. The Clinton Foundation also checks the tax office to see if any assets that are not taxable are used for personal or political activities.

Clinton’s chief spokesman, Nick Merrill, condemned the FBI on Friday morning for reopening the case, calling it “shameful,” and suggested that it was nothing more than a political move to divert public attention from Trump and Russia.

Foundation representative Craig Minasyan said that the new business will not distract them from their daily work.

“From time to time, the Clinton Foundation has been the subject of politically motivated allegations, and from time to time these allegations have been proven to be false. None of this stopped us from helping people,” Minasian said. “The Clinton Foundation has clearly improved the lives of millions of people across America and around the world, while earning high ratings from charitable watchdog groups.”

At the end of last year Wall Street Journal reported that several FBI offices, including one in Little Rock, collected information about the Clinton Foundation for over a year.

Several members of the Republican Party of Congress recently called on Attorney General Jeff Sessions to appoint a special lawyer to deal with a variety of issues related to Clintons.

One of the problems for any investigation in the Clinton era is that the statute of limitations for most federal criminal offenses is 5 years, and Clinton left her post at the beginning of 2013.
