The EU will extend sanctions against Russia for half a year

“The EU countries have agreed to extend economic sanctions imposed against Russia due to Moscow’s role in the crisis in Ukraine for another six months, until January 2016,” news agencies report, citing their sources in the EU.

The decision was made by the participants in the meeting of the Committee of Permanent Representatives of all 28 countries in the EU, who reportedly reached consensus on the wording of the document extending the sanctions from July 1 until the end of this year.

The document has yet to be approved by the foreign ministers of the EU member states at the meeting on Monday, however, it is expected that this is just a formality and its approval will occur without discussion.
