Elena Zelenskaya received the Global Citizen Award: it was presented by Bill and Hillary Clinton

During a visit to the United States to participate in the events of the 78th session of the UN General Assembly, First Lady of Ukraine Elena Zelenskaya received the Clinton Global Citizen Award. This is stated in a press release on official website of the President of Ukraine Vladimir Zelensky.

Founded in 2007 by Bill, Hillary and Chelsea Clinton, the award embodies President Bill Clinton's call to action by recognizing outstanding individuals whose vision and leadership have set an example for the global community. These individuals have proven that different sectors of society can successfully work together to develop solutions that lead to positive and lasting social change.

“It is a great honor for me to accept the award, which was received by outstanding personalities of the world. Along with honor, it is also a great responsibility. They say that a leader is someone whom you will follow where you would not go yourself. I'm not sure if this can apply to me. However, I think my leadership is about giving people courage. I truly believe that leadership is about dedication. Devotion to everyone who trusts you and what you do,” said Elena Zelenskaya, accepting the award.

The First Lady of Ukraine noted that she shares the award with all Ukrainians.

“Because today everyone in my country is a dedicated leader. A mother who takes her child to school and then rushes to work after a sleepless night due to an air raid raid. A teacher who teaches a lesson is often in a bomb shelter, remotely, in danger, but still teaches. Rescuers and doctors rushing to the victims of shelling. And courageous men and women who stand on the front line to prevent the invader from entering their homes, cities, and also to prevent aggression further into the world. These are real leaders who have taken responsibility for their lives, their country and maintaining security in the world. They are my compatriots. Thanks to them and on their behalf for this award,” added the First Lady of Ukraine.
