Ex-Governor of the State of New York joined the presidential race

The former governor of the state of New York, George Pataki, on Thursday entered the fight for the presidential nomination from the Republican Party in the elections of the 2016 of the year, in which many others are already willing to return the White House to their party.

“Now is the time to act decisively, protect our freedom and take back control of the government,” the politician said in a video entitled “Pataks for President” published on his website, georgepataki.com.

Pataki, who worked for three terms as governor, from 1995 to 2006, had long thought to run for the Senate or presidential elections.

He will become a representative of relatively moderate views among the contenders for the republican presidential nomination, among which there are many convinced conservatives. At the governor’s office, Pataki positioned himself as an advocate of abortion rights and signed a law on tight control over the circulation of arms.

Recently, he has criticized the bills on freedom of religion promoted by conservatives and called the letter of republican legislators to Iran’s leadership inappropriate for many undermining democrat President Barack Obama’s “inappropriate” letter.

In January, Pataki organized a “Super Political Action Committee” and spoke in New Hampshire and Florida, key states in the race for the presidential nomination.

Pataki sat in the New York State Senate when he took part in the gubernatorial election of 1994 of the year and slightly outnumbered the incumbent Democratic Governor Mario Cuomo.

After leaving the governor’s office in 2007, Pataki was a UN delegate for some time and founded an energy company.
