DiCaprio had to return the Oscar statuette to the authorities
Hollywood actor Leonardo DiCaprio had to return valuable gifts received from the producers of the movie “The Wolf in Wall Street”, amid an investigation into money laundering against a US production company Red Granite Pictures and its Malaysian partners, reports Chicago Tribune.
Red Granite Pictures suspected of money laundering and corruption. As part of the investigation, DiCaprio has been working with the US Department of Justice since July 2016.
In particular, the actor returned the Oscar statuette, donated Red granite as a thank you for his participation in the film The Wolf of Wall Street. Previously, this figurine belonged to actor Marlon Brando; he received it in 1954 for the film “On the Waterfront.”
DiCaprio also received works by Picasso artists from one of Malaysian businessmen. Nature Morte au Cr âne de Taureau, 1939, and the creation of the canvas of Jean-Michel Basquiat, which he also had to pass on to the investigation. Earlier, the actor intended to sell these works at auction, and give the money to the nature conservation fund opened to them.
