The time remaining on the clock until midnight symbolizes the level of tension in the world and the progress in the development of nuclear weapons. Midnight itself symbolizes the moment of a nuclear cataclysm.

The reason for the transfer of the arrow of the conditional clock forward was the growing tensions in the world, especially the scientists stressed the danger of continuing nuclear tests by North Korea. Among other things, towards the end of the world, mankind is steadily bringing the problem of climate change closer, scientists say.
