Britain called for a tribunal to circumvent the UN
British Prime Minister David Cameron called on the international community to consider alternative options for establishing a tribunal for the Malaysian Boeing plane crash over Donetsk.
“Justice must be served. Let's not forget: British people died on that flight. Hundreds of other people died on this flight. We cannot allow one country to stand in the way of justice and the search for truth. If we cannot establish a tribunal through the UN, then we must consider alternative routes,” said the head of the British government.
The Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs also published a statement explaining the vote in the UN Security Council on Boeing: “The Russian Federation, which in every possible way sought to prevent a split in the UN Security Council and take the issue into a constructive direction, did not consider it possible to miss the politicized decision imposed on the Security Council by voting against him".
The day before, the UN Security Council voted in favor of a draft resolution submitted by Malaysia on the creation of an international tribunal to investigate the Boeing MH17 crash in eastern Ukraine. However, Russia blocked adoption of the document by exercising its veto power as a permanent member of the Security Council. Australian Foreign Minister Julie Bishop called the Russian veto "a mockery of Russia's obligation to international responsibility."
