Bob Dylan will come to the Nobel Prize if he can

American musician and poet Bob Dylan contacted the Swedish Academy and notified her that he would receive the Nobel Prize in literature, awarded him in mid october.

“Do I accept the award? Of course,” Dylan was quoted as saying in a statement on the website of the award’s organizing committee.

“The news of the Nobel Prize left me speechless,” he told the academy's permanent secretary, Sarah Danius. “I really appreciate this honor.”

At the same time, in an interview with The Telegraph, he clarified that he plans to attend the presentation ceremony, which will be held on December 10 in Stockholm.

Shortly after the announcement of the award to him, Dylan gave a concert in Las Vegas, but during his speech did not mention the prize for literature.

Only once he fleetingly mentioned the award, but after 24 hours, and the post was soon removed.

Earlier, the Swedish Academy reported that it stopped trying to communicate with Bob Dylan, to which academicians could not reach.

In Stockholm 10 December, Bob Dylan will receive a check award for 750 thousands of British pounds from the hands of King Charles IV Gustav.

“It’s hard to believe,” says the Nobel laureate.

He was repeatedly made to the list of applicants for the award, but he was the winner for the first time.

With his silence, he puzzled the Nobel Committee. It was rumored that Dylan would refuse a prize in literature, as Jean Paul Sartre did in 1964 Go. As a result, the poet appeared unexpectedly and once again reminded about himself.

“Bob Dylan never hid the fact that he doesn’t like the media. Kapa Danius, the permanent secretary of the Swedish Academy, compared Dylan's literary contribution to the writers of ancient Greece.

“If you look back 2500 years or so, you find Homer and Sappho writing poetic texts. Same with Bob Dylan. We still read Homer and Sappho... and we like their works, just like Dylan,” she said.

The poet, in turn, cannot but agree with Capa Danius: “I believe that in some way it is so. Some of my own songs - Blind Willie, The Ballad of Hollis Brown, Joey, A Hard Rain, Hurricane and a few others - are definitely "homeric".

The singer also linked songwriting with his interests in painting and sculpture, although he admitted that in these areas he still could not have achieved such success as in music.

Bob Dylan was the first Nobel Prize winner in literature, and was awarded for her lyrics.

In its decision, the Swedish Academy explained that the prize was awarded to Dylan for "creating a new poetic language within the great American song tradition."

The statutes of the Nobel Committee note that “literature is not only fiction, but also other works that, in form or style, are of literary value.”
