Quartz: whether an illegal is arrested depends on his region of residence

“The fate of an illegal migrant depends on where he is caught, not on what he does,” said study author Muzaffar Chishti.

The survey also showed that during the first 135 days of the Donald Trump administration, ICE mainly deported migrants who were already detained in local prisons in various states, while at the same time the proportion of arrests made directly by federal agents increased.

In the future, Trump is expected to increase both types of arrests.

In Los Angeles, California, since 2015, the number of migrants transferred to ICE agents has decreased significantly. From this area in the first three months of the administration of the Tram administration, the feds received only 2300 migrants.

The study notes that despite the tightening of laws against illegal migration, the fight against this phenomenon under the new administration increased slightly and amounted to 24%, while during the administration of Barack Obama, this figure was 21%.
