Apocalypse in retail: 2019 stores closed in three months of 4

The beginning of 2019 of the year was not successful for some players in retail, writes FOX News.

Popular stores Gap, JCPenney, Victoria's Secret and Foot Locker have announced that they are closing more than 465 stores.

Later it became known that a number of retailers are planning to close 1000 stores. As a result, the total number of closed stores since the beginning of the year was over 4 810.

For example, Dollar Tree announced that they plan to close their Family Dollar stores all over the country before 390 and retool around 200 stores in Dollar Tree.

Abercrombie & Fitch plans to close up to 40 locations over the next year, and apparel retailer Charlotte Russe has confirmed it will close all 416 stores and start selling clothing.

The most unexpected news of the closure came from the giant online commerce Amazon. The company announced that it plans to close all 87 stores of the pop-up kiosk program.

“At Amazon, we regularly evaluate our business to ensure we are making informed decisions about how to best serve our customers. After extensive review, we have decided to discontinue our pop-up kiosk program,” an Amazon spokesperson said.

Despite the disappointing news about the closure of stores, it is reported that retailers such as Ulta Beauty, Indochino and Ross Stores opened the 2 254 store this year.

Recall in 2017 year closed over 5 thousand stores, this trend continued throughout the 2018 year.
