American lobbyist convicted for cooperation with the Ukrainian party

In the US, lobbyist Samuel Patten was sentenced to three years on probation in a cooperation case with the Ukrainian party Opposition Bloc. Prosecutors noted that Patten provided substantial assistance to the investigation.

Patten was convicted of illegal lobbying and conspiracy to circumvent US law, which prohibits foreign funding of election campaigns and presidential inauguration, writes "Voice of America".

In 2018, Patten admitted that he worked for the Opposition Bloc, but did not report this to the US government, as required by law. In addition, he said that he organized a special scheme in order to buy tickets for the inauguration of US President Donald Trump for a wealthy Ukrainian client.

At the same time, the court acknowledged that Patten helped investigate the case of Paul Manafort, the former head of the Trump election campaign, former lobbyist for the ex-president of Ukraine Viktor Yanukovych and the Party of Regions.

The American authorities believe that Manafort and Patten worked closely with the Russian Konstantin Kilimnik, whom the US Federal Bureau of Investigation suspects of having connections with Russian intelligence. Kilimniku is charged with witnesses, but he did not appear in a US court. According to the US authorities, he is now in Russia.
